St.Mel's TY

School Mass

On Friday the 9th of October Mass was celebrated in the school. The mass was celebrated by Bishop Colm O’Reilly, who then blessed and officially opened The John Geraty Hall. Many thanks to Fr. Joe, Ms McGuinness, Ms Geraghty and Mr Gacquin for all their help in organising the mass. A special thanks you to Ms Moran for the beautiful flower arrangements.
Country Music

On Tuesday, the 6th of October, the Transition Year class along with Ms McGuinness visited the Backstage Theatre to watch a play called "Country Music". The play evolved around 20 years in the life of a troubled man sent to prison for murder. When he is released he also tries to make a relationship between himself and his daughter. As the play goes on he learns a lot about life. It was an enjoyable play but very deep and serious.
Psycho Spaghetti

On Thursday the T.Y class along with Fr. Joe McGrath went to see a stand up comedian in Roscommon town in the Abbey hotel. The title would suggest this was a play but everyone was happily surprised when it turned out to be stand up comedy. He had everyone in stitches the entire way through the show and didn’t do anything that wasn’t funny. The TY’s are hoping to get Ger Carey in to do a workshop with them later in the year.
GAA

On Thursday the 8th of October the Senior B team took on Granard Vocational School with not the best team out. Most of the main players were out. The team was very unfortunate to lose 2-9 to 2-7 with a last dash goal from Granard. On Tuesday 6th October our Senior team took on Moate Community College in Kiloe. The final score was 3-12 to 1-19. Hard luck lads.
First aid

On Monday the 5th of October St Mel’s transition year group took part in First Aid classes with Fran Rattigan. She taught them what to do in an emergency situation, the recovery position and to call 999 if you are unsure what to do. Over the next few weeks she will be teaching them the vital skills of First Aid which is a must in modern life.
Sport

Rugby and Hurling matches were called off due the poor weather conditions last Friday. Reports next week
